Octaflow’s dictation is free for good. It turns speech into text on your Mac, so there’s no weekly word cap and nothing is uploaded. If you’ve been looking for a free alternative to Wispr Flow on Mac, this is it, with one honest catch: it’s English only for now.
How it works
- Click into any text field. Messages, Mail, Notes, Slack, a browser, a code editor, anywhere you can type.
- Hold Right ⌘ and talk. Or tap it to start and tap again to finish, whichever you like.
- Let go. Octaflow turns what you said into text on your Mac and pastes it where your cursor is.
Why it’s free
Dictation runs on your Mac, not on our servers, so it doesn’t cost us anything per word. That’s why there’s no weekly limit and no account needed. The paid part of Octaflow is Octaflow Pro, which goes further than typing: you ask it to do things across your apps, like replying to an email or turning on Dark Mode. You never need Pro to dictate.
What you get
- No word limit. Dictate a sentence or a whole document.
- Private by design. Speech is turned into text on your Mac. The audio is never uploaded, and it works offline.
- Works in any app. If you can type there, you can dictate there.
- Your vocabulary. Add names and terms so they come out right.
- Nothing gets lost. If the text doesn’t land where you meant, Octaflow can tell you and offer to copy it. Your last 200 dictations are kept on your Mac so you can grab one again.
- Pick your speed. Small, Standard or Large speech models, all on your Mac.
