Getting started
- Open Octaflow.dmg and drag Octaflow into Applications. If you open it from somewhere else, it offers to move itself.
- Follow setup. Sign in with Apple or Google, then allow the microphone and the other permissions below. Octaflow explains each one before macOS asks.
- Try it. Press Right ⌥ (Option) and ask, “Show me my Downloads folder.” Press Right ⌘ (Command) to dictate into any text field.
Octaflow keeps itself up to date after that.
Want Octaflow to do things?
Dictation is free. To ask Octaflow to do things, upgrade to Pro from the last setup screen or from Settings › Account › Upgrade… in the app. See pricing.
What you’ll need
- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later)
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later
- An Apple or Google account to sign in (dictation works without one)
- Google Chrome, optional, for better tasks on the web
What Octaflow will ask for
macOS asks you to allow each of these the first time.
| Permission | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| Microphone | Hearing you while you speak. Speech is turned into text on your Mac. |
| Accessibility | Reading and using app controls, the way you would |
| Screen Recording | Looking at one app window when a step needs it |
| Automation (Chrome) | Working with your tabs and web pages, if you use Chrome |
